TRAIL IMPACT

TRUE OR FALSE:
MOUNTAIN BIKING CAUSES EXCESSIVE DAMAGE TO THE ENVIRONMENT

Quite simply, not any more than any type of non-motorized recreational activity. No scientific study has indicated that bicycling causes more wear to trails than other users, degradation of plants, or more impact on wildlife than hiking, running, horseback riding, fishing, hunting, bird watching and any other non-motorized activity.

To learn more about studies that have been performed comparing the impact on riding on the environment, please read this informative article, well researched by the International Mountain Bicycling Association.

Trail Maintenance

We understand and respect the concerns for the ecology and biology of the area and are committed to treading lightly. The SMBC has been trained by IMBA's Trail Care Crew and all trail maintenance and building will be performed with the environment and conservation foremost in mind. In the event that a trail section degrades, we commit to make the appropriate repair by either rerouting or armoring (technique to build up with stone) the damaged area. And if need be, we will close trails that are unsustainable. Please call upon us should you have any issues with trails on your property, trails that you use or trails that you know about.
