I'm putting together a few volunteer trail work days this month for Perry Hill in Waterbury. The first is this Sunday (6/14) and the second is two weeks after that (6/28). Both will start at noon. For the first of the two days, someone will be there to lead an early crew that will start at 10:00. Meet at the tunnel at which ever time works better for you. Tools will be provided, just bring work gloves, water, snacks, and bug spray. Expect to be out for three to four hours.

If you've ridden Perry Hill over the past few weeks, you've probably noticed some pretty big changes to the Burning Spear trail. We were fortunate to get a grant from the state, and used that to hire a big crew to come in for a week and tackle some sections of very technical trail building. On Sunday we will finish off a few loose ends and fine tune some spots on both Burning Spear and the new trail that was built last year (the one that climbs to the top of Burning Spear).

Thanks to everyone who came out for the last work day. We had a great turnout of at least 20 people, with about a 1/2 dozen for the early group and at least 15 for the noon crew. We got a lot of work done, including a bridge installation, major improvements on three turns (two of which involved quite a bit of rock work), and a good bit of armoring.

I'm really optimistic that we'll have just as big of a turnout for this Sunday (the 28th). Once again, we'll have two start times. Hardy will lead a group up at 10:00, and I'll follow with the next group at 12:00. Our plan is to pick away at any unfinished work on Burning Spear, and to put in a few more reroutes. The reroutes will be in the area where the Main Climb meets Scotch Tape (the cut-across trail that leads to the new trail we built last year that goes to the top of the hill).

This is the last work day before the Vermont Mountain Bike Festival, and I'm really looking forward to replacing some bad section of trail that have been a problem for years, before the big event.
